I was already familiar with the Kingdom Hearts game series, though I admit to a great deal of apprehension when I first heard that Square Enix, makers of the Final Fantasy video games, was collaborating with Disney to make a game. However, at the same time, I was curious about how two of my favorite things would work together. Thankfully, they did work and I was sold on the series after that.
I had just finished Final Fantasy 10-2, the game in which the character Paine first showed up, and had loved her from the start. So when I found out that they would be doing a cute pixie version of her in Kingdom Hearts II, I was excited to make the costume. I had just graduated from Fashion design the year before and was happy to try a much more fitted garment using a stretch fabric - a task that was a tad more tricky on my own with no one to help fit me, but somehow I managed. The real challenge came with making the wings and the studded cape.
I had never made wings before, and wasn't sure if my idea of wired vinyl would work. They angle down more then I would like, but I am still proud of my results! As for the shawl, well, the real challenge came with the three rows of silver studs. There are over 300 of them, and I had to put them all on by hand! My fingers were very sore by the end, and I almost ran out of studs, but the end look was something great
